Reviewing Your Claim
Reviewing your Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Reduction claim
From time to time we may be required to review your claim to ensure that your circumstances still remain the same and that you are receiving the correct amount of benefit.
The review could be on a number of different aspects of your claim. For example we may decide to review the number of people living in the household, or the amount of earnings that you have.
If your claim is identified as one that needs to be reviewed we will in the first instance:
1. Phone you, we will explain:
- Who we are
- What it is we are doing
- What element of your claim we are reviewing and whether your circumstances have remained the same. We will also ask whether there are any other changes that you wish to report.
2. If there has been a change we will advise you that we will suspend your claim to avoid any overpayment of benefit and issue a letter requesting proof of the change. You will have one calendar month to supply the relevant proof.
3. If there has been no change we will update our systems. There will be no further contact until the next review.
If we are unable to get in touch with you over the phone we will suspend your claim to avoid any overpayment of benefit and send a letter explaining what it is we are reviewing on your claim and ask you to clarify if your circumstances have remained the same. If there has been a change then the letter will ask you to provide proof. You will have one calendar month to respond to this letter. If you do not respond your claim will be cancelled and you will receive an invoice for any overpayment of Housing Benefit and a revised Council Tax Bill if applicable.
