Unpaid Work

What is Unpaid Work?

Unpaid work is where you give your time to help people but don't get paid for it.

You can keep on getting your benefits because you do not get any money from your job. But you must tell the Job Centre that you are doing voluntary work.

Voluntary work is a good way to find new interests and meet new people.

Voluntary work can also help you get a paid job because you will:

  • Learn new skills
  • Become more confident
  • Show employers that you can work regular hours and show that you are reliable
  • Have something to talk about in an interview for a paid job
  • Get references from people who can tell an employer how good you were at volunteering
