With such a variety of environments in Southend, such as the estuary, seafront, open green spaces, woodlands, parks, playgrounds and shopping centres, it's important we all look after our City. Cigarette littering causes unhygienic hazards for our children, pets, wildlife and waterways. Every cigarette butt that is dropped down a drain contaminates 7 litres of water. Micro plastics research carried out on cigarette butts shows that it can take anything from 18 months to 10 years to for each one to decompose.
