Looking after your family

Childcare

All 3 to 4 year olds in England can get 570 free hours of childcare per year. It’s usually taken as 15 hours a week for 38 weeks of the year. If you have a 2 year old you may be able to get free childcare for them too.

Childcare is fun and safe. Your child will be able to learn through play and make new friends. There are many different types of childcare in Southend, including nurseries, pre-schools, childminders and out of school clubs. If your 2, 3 or 4 year old child attends a childcare setting you will have time to rest, work, study, or look for a job. Whatever you use the time for, you can be sure your child is in good hands.

If you want to find out more about childcare places for your 2,3 or 4 year old child please contact us:

School

Children between 5 years old and 16 years old must have access to education.

We have a simple application form that you will need to complete so that we can organise an early years, school place or post 16 provision.

You only need to complete one form for all your children.

How to research schools:

  • you can research providers for schools that you are interested in via their websites or via our schools pages
  • you can look at the map of the area with the schools and find the ones closest to you
  • you can call us on 01702 212 934 or email admissions@southend.gov.uk for advice and guidance

Once you are ready to apply please use the application form and complete it. You can do this online, or drop it off at the Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea SS2 6ER, or post it or email it to us. Some people write on the form, take a photo and send us the photo. Whatever is easiest for you.
