Sad passing of Cllr Ware-Lane
Published Monday, 21st January 2019
It is with great sorrow that we share the sad news that Cllr Julian Ware-Lane passed away yesterday (Sunday 20 January 2019).
Councillor Ware-Lane was a Labour councillor for Milton ward from 2012, and also stood as the Labour parliamentary candidate for Southend West. He was most recently a member of the People scrutiny committee and Standard Advisory Council on Religious Education.
Cllr John Lamb, leader of the council, says: “This is a very sad day for Southend-on-Sea and all our thoughts are with Julian’s family and friends at this sad time.
“There can be no doubt that Julian was absolutely passionate about the whole borough and also his beloved Milton ward. He was totally committed to doing the right thing for local people and was everything that a good local councillor should be. His passing leaves a big hole in local politics.
“We had many passionate debates across the political chamber over the years, and I had the upmost respect for Julian. I am very saddened by his passing and he will be greatly missed.”
As a mark of respect, council flags at the Civic Centre have been lowered to half-mast.
