Library Books on Shelves

Do you know someone who has a passion for reading, but is unable to visit a library? If so, the council’s home library service could be for them.

The home library service, managed by the council and delivered by volunteers, gives residents within the borough the opportunity to have books delivered directly to their door, for free.

The service is available for anyone who is unable to visit a library to choose items for themselves and is part of the council’s aim of enriching the lives of residents who may feel isolated.

Cllr Kevin Robinson, cabinet member for business, culture and tourism, said: “The home library service offers a fantastic, free service for our residents who may not be able to visit a local library, whether that is through a disability, through lack of mobility, lack of transport, or even recovering from an operation.

“We are keen to champion good reading in Southend, and I urge anyone with an interest in reading to consider the home library service, or to perhaps recommend the service to someone they may know.”
