South Essex residents asked to spring clean their journey
Published Monday, 2nd March 2020
People across South Essex are being encouraged to swap their car for a different way of travelling in March as part of ForwardMotion’s ‘Spring Clean Your Journey’ challenge.
Launched today (Monday 2 March), the travel challenge gives residents from Thurrock, Basildon, Rochford, Castle Point or Southend-on-Sea the opportunity to win a £250 prize for completing just one journey on a bus, train, bike or on foot which they would have normally travelled by car.
The challenge, from travel initiative ForwardMotion, encourages residents to think about how they can travel more actively and sustainably by giving their journey to work, university, college or job interviews a spring clean.
Once they’ve completed their journey, residents need to use the hashtag #SpringCleanJourney to be entered into the prize draw. Alternatively, residents can inform ForwardMotion they’ve taken part in the challenge by sending an email about their journey spring clean to ForwardMotion.
The campaign will feature on buses and billboards across the South Essex region, throughout March.
Cllr Ron Woodley, chair of the South Essex Active Travel Sponsoring Board, commented: “With Spring just around the corner, we’re encouraging people to turn over a new leaf and use a greener travel method in March, to help reduce emissions across the south Essex area. Buses, trains and cycling all produce fewer emissions per passenger than a car, and, of course, walking cuts emissions out completely.
“As well as helping the environment, swapping the car for a different way of travelling this month can help people save money and feel refreshed, both physically and mentally. And, not forgetting, taking part in our challenge also means you’re in with a chance of winning a £250 prize.”
To help people spring clean their journeys, ForwardMotion’s trained travel advisers will be on hand throughout March, ready to provide free, tailored advice about how you can swap the car for a cleaner way of travelling. Get in touch by email or pick up the phone and call 01702 212727.
