Waste services to be carried out as normal during latest restrictions

The borough’s two household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) will remain open and collections will continue as usual during the current restrictions, in line with the most recent Government update.

The number of vehicles allowed access will continue to be limited and visitors are being urged to adhere to the social distancing measures in place across the two sites. This includes limiting the number of people per vehicle to two from the same household. Please visit our HWRC pages for more information.

Bulky waste collections can also still be booked online.

Recycling and waste collections will also continue on your usual collection day. However, staff will be working in restricted numbers per group.

Kerbside garden waste collections are also currently still available to residents who have signed up to the service. However, please be aware that due to the ever-changing situation, services may be reviewed as the situation develops. Please visit our Affected Services page.

Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment and planning, said: “As the country deals with the latest Government restrictions in a bid to tackle the coronavirus outbreak, it is important here in Southend we do all we can to protect our residents.

“Veolia staff worked heroically throughout the first lockdown and managed to continue providing all waste collection services. In line with Government guidance, they will be able to do so once again, whilst also keeping the two recycling centres open, whilst keeping their staff and visitors safe.

“I would urge all residents to act responsibly and only use the centres if you absolutely have to. We must all do our bit and work together to protect our loved ones in these extremely challenging times. Everyone has shown a resilient spirit in Southend during these last few months and this will be key to getting through this situation over the next few weeks.”
