Following disruption to collections due to the snowfall last week, Veolia are putting additional resources into collecting all missed collections, as well as carrying out this week's collections.
Veolia have also been delivering the council’s Winter Service Plan last week by gritting the priority areas around the Borough, including the vaccination and testing centres.
Residents are reminded that both the Stock Road and Leigh Marshes Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are open as usual. Please only take waste to a HWRC if it cannot be stored safely at home until your collection day and no alternative disposal options are available.
Garden waste customers may experience some disruption this week and if your bin is not collected, Veolia will collect any additional garden waste placed in bags and put next to the bin during normal garden waste collections next week. There is no need to report a missed garden waste collection this week.
Veolia will also be adjusting their street cleansing across the Borough to accommodate the delayed collections and ensure that any spillage or litter due to sacks left on the streets is removed as soon as possible.
Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment and planning, said: “Last week the Veolia crews were dealing with near impossible conditions, but still managed to collect some recycling and waste collections. It was a huge effort, given they were also tasked with gritting the main routes across the town and ensuring the vaccination and testing centres were accessible throughout the week
“I would like to thank the crews for their dedication to the job and would urge residents to support the crews by ensuring any missed waste and recycling from last week is stored securely on their property until their normal day this week. The crews are working with a backlog, but Veolia will be doing all they can to ensure the streets are cleared this week.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
