Shoebury Common North play area opens for bank holiday weekend

Shoebury Common North play area is welcoming visitors from today following a £300,000 investment to re-landscape the common and improve the offer in the area.

The play area, which was planned following public outreach sessions was approved by the council’s Development Control Committee in August 2020. The new play area is an inclusive space and includes swings, slides, multi-play units and other great play equipment.

The £300,000 investment in enhancing Shoebury Common North comes from council’s capital programme.

Paul Jenkinson, head of parks and open spaces for Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, said: “The local community have had a long-held ambition to reveal the potential of this part of the seafront, which has some of the finest Blue Flag beaches in the Borough and boasts commanding views of the estuary.

“Following extensive consultation with local residents and stakeholders, who I would also like to thank for their ongoing support, the new play space will utilise the existing underused land and create additional facilities for families to enjoy safely.

“With the Easter bank holiday fast approaching, we are delighted the new play area will be open for use this weekend, and I hope residents and visitors alike make use of what is a fantastic new facility. I would urge visitors to adhere to the Covid safety measures which are in place for their own safety and use the play area safely.”
