Flags at the Civic Centre, the parks and Porters have all been lowered to half mast following the sad news of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. We join the rest of the nation in expressing our sadness.

The Mayor, Councillor John Lamb, has also written on behalf of the Southend-on-Sea borough to the Private Secretary to the Duke of Edinburgh to express condolences to Her Majesty and other members of the Royal Family.

Funeral arrangements

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Funeral will take place on Saturday 17 April 2021 at 3pm in St George’s Chapel, Windsor. The Funeral Service will begin with a National Minute’s Silence at three o’clock. The service will be preceded by a ceremonial procession inside the grounds of Windsor Castle. The funeral will be broadcast on TV and radio.
