Can you Make Southend Sparkle?

Make Southend Sparkle is running a community campaign to encourage residents and businesses to take pride in the town during the first two weeks of July.

Make Southend Sparkle has seen volunteers around the borough clearing litter from parks, beaches and streets, planting shrubs and sprucing up public spaces. It is now launching a competition to give local residents, schools, groups and businesses the opportunity to show off their talents, whilst simultaneously making Southend sparkle.

With categories including best hanging basket, best balcony (visible from the street), best overall front garden, best overall School grounds, best street and many more.

Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment, culture, tourism and planning, said: “It’s wonderful to see so many people giving up their free time to Make Southend Sparkle, and helping to make Southend a great place for everyone who lives in, works in or visits our beautiful Borough.

“This competition aims to widen the reach of the campaign, encouraging more local people to get involved and make the most of their own forecourts and spruce up their own streets.

“Whether you rent or own your property, whether you wish to enter a simple hanging basket or a whole neighbourhood effort to make your street vibrant, there is a category to match your budget and ambition.”

To register visit MySouthend, entries for this event must be made by Monday 28 June, with the winners being announced July 30 2021
