Safe Southend car parks scoop parking Oscars

An impressive 27 Southend Car Parks have just won the Oscars of the car parking world – the prestigious Park Mark award.

Last year, 24 car parks in the borough gained the award, but this year another three have now earned their place on the leader board too. These are Essex Street, Southchurch Park East and Thorpe Bay Broadway.

Park Marks are awarded to each car park which achieves the challenging demands of the Safer Parking Scheme.  This is a national standard for UK car parks which have low crime, and measures in place to keep people and vehicles safe

The distinctive Park Mark signs help drivers find car parks where they can confidently leave their vehicles, knowing the environment is safer for them, their passengers and car.

Car parks in line for the award are inspected and judged on elements such as maintenance, lighting, layout and management practices – as well as crime statistics.

Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Cllr Martin Terry said: “As Southend is such a major destination for visitors and shoppers, it is essential that we do our best to provide a warm welcome for everyone when they arrive, so we are delighted to be able to offer well-signposted, safe car parks.

“It is especially pleasing that we have gained three more Park Mark awards this year, in addition to all last year’s Southend Park Mark car parks keeping up their award-winning standards.

“Whilst we are extremely proud of these achievements, we aim to keep increasing the number of awards every year for the benefit of all our car park customers.”
