Cool Towns is a European funded programme (Interreg 2 Seas). It will help local councils in England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands deliver town greening projects. This will help them understand how to reduce the effects of heat stress in their cities and towns.
It will look at how green space projects can help reduce the future impacts of heat stress in Southend. The works will include:
- a number of small-scale greening projects along Southend High Street that show how this can help to reduce heat stress
- an installation at the end of Southend Pier that will help promote the Cool Towns project. It will also provide free drinking water to visitors during the summer months.
Further information about the project can be found on the Cool Towns website.
