Seeking Out Corrosion
SOCORRO (Seeking Out Corrosion – before it’s too late) is a European funded programme (Interreg 2 Seas).
Throughout Europe, the effects of steel corrosion would cost €500 billion to fix. Despite this being a big problem, there is not a general approach to help people understand where and when steel corrosion might take place.
SOCORRO will develop an approach to fill this gap. The project will make special sensor systems that will help people and companies spot corrosion risks to their steel before the corrosion happens, helping them stop damage before it is too late. This will also help people and companies become more aware of the problem of steel corrosion.
In Southend, SOCORRO will help the Council in stopping steel corrosion at Southend Pier.
Further information about the project can be found at the SOCORRO website.
