One of the major issues facing local businesses is to remain viable and profitable during the economic downturn. Electricity, gas and water costs are all rising. Especially as energy bills are expected to increase significantly in the coming years.
We aim to help businesses to reduce their carbon emissions. Also, improve energy efficiency and become more sustainable. In turn, helping the City tackle climate change and reduce operational costs.
A 3 year programme is in place to support SMEs in Southend to reduce their operating costs through resource efficiency. The European funded Low Carbon Business Programme provides:
- fully funded green business support
- business audits
- grants of up to 40% of the cost of adding measures to reduce costs and cut carbon
Over 100 businesses in Southend have been helped by this. 4 in 10 of them have had grants to change the way they work and reduce their costs.
More information can be found on the Carbon Trust website.
