Climate Change

Sustainable Schools

We aim to encourage all schools within the City to become more sustainable and reduce their carbon emissions. The following are currently available for all schools to join.

The Eco-Schools Programme

The Eco-schools scheme is one of the largest school networks. Its concern is with eco-standards in schools across the world. It provides member schools with a base to evaluate its current process in terms of the environment. The Eco-schools plan is to help schools raise green standards by advising them on the changes they can make.

The Better Energy School Awards

The Better Energy School AWARDS (formerly known as Total Green School Awards) aims to assist and encourage environmental education for young people aged 5-11. They promote cross-curricular work on the environment. With the option to study energy including fossil fuels and alternate technology. Linking with the National Curriculum for England and Wales.

WWF - One Planet School

The WWF and BT Green Ambassador Scheme is a new offering to primary schools. It aims to encourage a new generation of sustainability champions and provides everything they need to set up or improve a school's green team. There are free school kits and help from BT's Education volunteers!

Solar Schools

Solar Schools is a brand new project that's putting clean energy in classrooms all over the country. Schools set a fundraising target for their very own solar roof, then everyone chips in to help make it happen.

It's a chance for pupils, parents, local businesses and former students to do something good for their school, their community, and the whole world. Solar Schools is run by 1010, a network of people doing positive, practical stuff to tackle climate change.
