Focal Point Gallery exhibitions

Providing high quality contemporary art and recognised internationally for its work, the Focal Point Gallery is located within The Forum. It is jointly funded by Southend-on-Sea City Council and externally by the Arts Council.

The next exhibition runs until the end of May and is called ‘Practice Makes Perfect’ from Rosa-Johan Uddoh a London based interdisciplinary artist. He explores the relationship of childhood education with popular ideas of the British nation, and how this forms British subjects.

Hares about town - local charity fundraiser

Hares about Town is a spectacular free, fun, family-friendly public art event that will weave its way across Southend on Sea from July for 10 weeks in 2021.

In partnership with Wild in Art, hare sculptures, each one individually designed by an artist and sponsored by a business in support of Havens Hospice charity, will be placed across the town.

Several hares will be located in the town centre area bringing footfall and interest in the area. Similar schemes elsewhere have brought visitors from far afield as well as exciting the local population to take a trail around part of town perhaps not visited for a while.

Engineroom

An independent group set up to deliver a long term vision for the town centre. The group was formed in response to the Council’s 2018-19 scrutiny study of the town centre, and the Council is one of the members.
