‘Elements and Silent Space’ - Kristina Simenski

Location: Southend Central Library
Cost: /
Ground Floor Gallery - Southend Central Library
Stunning displays of deftly handled colour and dynamic composition burst into abstraction and into real life; in a show which is certain to inspire the subconscious.
Dramatic two dimensional representations of dream states and unconscious emotions are how this self taught artist describes her unique collection of abstract expressionist canvases. Utilising vivid colour as an expression of her feelings, the works display consistent freshness and vitality, unburdened by academic influence.
Kristina’s rationale is as compelling as her work is striking ‘I work from the idea of portraying emotion and energy without the restraints of limitation or learnt restriction’.
Conscious of the impact her work carries, Kristina sees exhibiting as an essential element to the role art must fulfil, namely the interaction and response of audience emotion- she would like the audience to not merely respond to the work, but to respond to other audience members, to create debate through a visual provocation.
These impressive works are available to purchase, so look no further for that unique conversation piece!

A photographic record of passing sights of Southend Seafront.
Ground Floor Gallery, Southend Central Library
Between the summers of 2009 and 2010 Chris Lang and Ann Morgan made a photographic record of the passing sights and the passers by of Southend seafront. Those promenading were offered the opportunity to have their photograph taken using black and white medium format film along with a digital colour image; which was then offered as a keepsake in thanks for contributing to the visual documentary.
In this exhibition an authentic cast of Southend inhabitants and visitors feature, where the emphasis in focus is upon the story of the person portrayed and the atmosphere of their presence in the landscape depicted.
Both Chris and Ann are erstwhile admirers of many seminal photographers from the 20th century such as Diane Arbus and Elliot Erwitt; and from this century Martin Parr and Donovan Wylie: where it is possible to trace a ‘reportage’ influence.
Having exhibited widely across the south of England both photographers are keen to show this particular collection of images in the native location, so why not drop by and catch a familiar sight or two!
