How you may be affected by the current coronavirus situation.

We are doing our best to manage the unprecedented number of calls and emails regarding ceremony bookings.

The information below outlines our practices at this present time.


Unfortunately we are not able to produce any next day certificates. All certificates will be produced after 14 working days and will be posted to the applicant.

Southend Register Office is open for Death registrations by Phone and Birth Appointments Face to Face

To ensure we meet social distancing guidelines and reduce the risk to both customers and registrars death registrations will completed remotely via telephone.

Registering Births

Do you have a new baby born at Southend Hospital or at home in the Southend area?

Our online diary is open for Self-service appointments for all babies born in Southend

If your birth registration is Urgent please call us on 01702 534350/1

When attending your registration appointment please remember:

  • only one person to attend when married
  • bring in letter from hospital or Babies Red Book and form of I.D for each parent
  • you do not have to bring your baby(s) but if necessary please make sure children are supervised
  • car park is situated in Carnarvon Road SS2 6EN
  • stay in your car until your appointment time and then make you way to the Registration Entrance Doors adjacent to the car park.
  • please stand outside the doors and you will be collected
  • masks can be worn if they have them and you are comfortable doing so
  • we have sanitizing equipment on site
  • payments by card only

Ceremonies and Appointments

Currently due to demand we cannot take any new provisional booking for Wedding/Civil Partnership/Renewal of Vows.

We aim to restart Provisional bookings from September and to start new Ceremonies from Oct ’20.

If you have a current confirmed or provisional booking in our Internal venues ( Register Office, Victoria Rom or Jubilee Room ) we will be in contact in a chronological order.

If you have an external Wedding please contact your Venue for guidance.

For any new notice of Marriage/Civil Partnership whose Marriage/Civil Ceremony is due within the next 2 months please call us on 01702 534350/1 to discuss.

Citizenship Ceremonies will recommence in August ’20 if your Ceremony was deferred please do not contact us we will be in contact to offer a rescheduled date.

For all new Citizenship Application, once we receive your certificate we will be in contact to arrange a Ceremony date.
