Emergency planning in Southend

What we would do in an emergency

If there is likely to be an emergency situation, we will talk to other agencies and the emergency services. This is to ensure that we work together to deal with the situation.

Community risk register

The law says councils must share information about risks in their area. This law is called the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

A community risk register is a list of things that could happen locally, such as emergencies.

It explains what the risks are and how organisations plan to deal with them.

In Essex, this work is done together by The Essex Resilience Forum who bring councils, emergency services, and other organisations together.

The Essex Community Risk Register covers the whole county.

It is checked and updated often and when a new risk appears or when information changes.

You can view the latest Essex Community Risk Register on the Essex Resilience Forum website.

If you are affected

If you or your home is likely to be affected by an emergency, you will be contacted by the emergency services. They will give advice about what to do, including where to go if you need to leave your home.

How to get information in an emergency

We will provide up-to date information through social media and will update this website with what is happening. If there is a major emergency, local and national radio and TV will provide pubic safety advice updates.

The Essex Resilience Forum is also a good online tool with things to do to help you prepare.
