Now serving iconic pie and mash at our Pier

London’s oldest surviving pie and mash shop, based in Tower Bridge Road, has extended its reach to one of the most iconic seaside locations in the UK – Southend Pier.

A table with 2 plates containing pie, mash and liquor overlooking the sea. There is also a pint of beer and two bottles of sauce.

The iconic Manze's Pie and Mash has been a celebrated name in traditional British fare for over 100 years is now available at the Offshore Restaurant on Southend Pier, which offers unrivalled views over the Thames Estuary.

The inclusion of Manze's hand-made pies, mash and liquor complements the existing Offshore restaurant and bar menu and is part of a series of exciting new additions to the world's longest pier ahead of the busy tourism season. Last month also saw the installation of a Selfie Signpost on the pier and several exciting events are planned for the summer.

Colin Ansell, chief executive of the council, said: “Having met with the pier team recently to discuss their upcoming plans to help us hit record visitor numbers to our pier and foreshore, I am delighted that the legendary Manze's pie and mash is now available on our pier.

“Our city centre has recently seen the arrival of some well-known culinary names join our well-established independents, and to have the first Manze menu available in south Essex is another boost for our city.

“We have big plans for our pier this year as we want to attract record visitor numbers and look forward to a host of exciting changes, enhancements, and engaging events this year, including a summer Whitsun Fayre, the return of the Spanish tall ship Galleon Andalucia, a Gin and Rum festival, and our world-renowned City Jam street art festival, which will be fully incorporated on the pier and across the city centre.

Darren Lattimer, franchise owner of the pier's Offshore restaurant, added: "We are delighted to bring the taste of Manze's hand-crafted pies to Southend Pier. They've been enjoyed by generations of Britons, and we're excited to introduce them to our menu, offering visitors a delicious taste of tradition as they enjoy the stunning views and seaside atmosphere. George the Pearly King of Peckham has already been to visit and approves of our new Manze's menu.

“We will also be catering to various dietary requirements, including vegan Manze's pies, and visitors can unwind in our fully licensed bar, serving refreshingly cold beers, wine, as well as tea and coffee.”

The Manze's menu is available now at the Offshore Restaurant on Southend Pier.
