The number of documents required will depend on which route is being followed.
When enough documents have been selected, the system will notify you.
Original documents must be produced for the identity check.
At least one document must verify the applicant's current address (documents containing addresses are marked with *). And one document should display the applicant's date of birth
Route 1
You will need to provide:
- one document from document category group 1
- two further documents (one of these must verify your current address) from either:
If you cannot produce a group 1 document, then go to route 2.
Route 2
Three documents from document category group 2 consisting of:
- one document from group 2a; and
- two further documents from group 2a or group 2b (one of these must verify your current address), and
- an external company will then check the applicant against their records to establish the applicant's name and living history footprint - this is built into the e-CRB system and will be done automatically
Route 3
Route 3 should only be used in circumstances once we have fully explored why your identity has not been successfully validated via routes 1 or 2.
We will hold a discussion with you about the likely reasons why your identity has not been validated before considering using route 3. A record of this discussion should be kept for internal purposes.
For route 3, you must produce:
- Birth certificate (UK and Channel Islands) - (issued after the time of birth by the General Register Office/relevant authority i.e. Registrars - Photocopies are not acceptable) and
- four further documents from group 2 consisting of:;
If you fail to produce the required document set at Route 3, you will need to be sent for fingerprinting by the police. Please contact the Essex e-DBS service who will explain this process and send out a paper application.
