At the Full Council meeting held on Wednesday 9 July 2025, The Worshipful the Mayor, Cllr Nigel Folkard, led a minute's silence in memory of Leonna Ruka, who tragically lost her life following the recent incident at Chalkwell Park.

“In a moment I will ask the Council to hold a minute's silence in tribute to Leonna Ruka, who tragically died following the tree collapse in Chalkwell Park.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Leonna's family, and with the six-year-old girl and her family who remains in hospital following the tragedy.” - The Worshipful the Mayor, Cllr Nigel Folkard

The Council and the wider Southend community stand united together in grief and support during this difficult time.
