There's just two weeks to go before Southend-on-Sea's new recycling and waste service begins.

From the week of Monday 27 October 2025, most households in the city will move to a new collection system with wheelie bins for recycling and general waste, and alternate weekly collections.
To help residents prepare, we're sharing three important reminders:
Three things to remember before Monday 27 October
- Do not present your new wheelie bins early. Crews from SUEZ cannot collect from the new wheelie bins until the new service starts. Please continue to use your existing sacks or boxes until the week of Monday 27 October.
- Download the free Southend Waste App. The app will keep you up to date with your new collection schedule, allow you to report missed collections, set reminders, and more.
- Check your leaflet pack and frequently asked questions (FAQs). Each wheelie bin set comes with a leaflet pack to help you prepare, and the council online Waste FAQ page is updated regularly so you have the latest information.
Cllr Lydia Hyde, cabinet member for Climate, Environment and Waste, said: "This is the biggest change to waste and recycling in Southend for many years, and we want to make sure every household feels prepared. The new wheelie bin system will help us recycle more, cut down on litter and keep our streets tidier. We know this is a change, which is why we've put as much information as possible in your leaflet packs, online FAQs and through the Southend Waste App, so you have everything you need to get ready."
