Southend-on-Sea City Council leads the way with four wins at 2025 Essex Housing Awards

The Council has been recognised with four major honours at this year’s county-wide Essex Housing Awards.

Four men on a stage receiving an award. The sign at the back of the stage reads 'Essex Housing Awards 2025'.

These wins celebrate the city's innovation, commitment to sustainability, and the exceptional talent within its housing and development teams.

The council took home both Climate Action awards & Decarbonisation or Retrofit and Low or Zero Carbon in New Build - highlighting its leadership in tackling the climate emergency through practical, forward-thinking action and contributing to a safer, cleaner, and greener city for residents.

There was also individual success for Southend officers, with Martin Berry named Housing & Development Professional of the Year and Josh Alderton winning the Mo Slade Rising Star Award, which celebrates emerging professionals making a real difference in the housing sector.

These achievements reflect the council's ongoing commitment to supporting strong, active communities and fostering professional excellence, and demonstrating the progress being made on its housing improvement journey.

Cllr Daniel Cowan, Leader of the Council, said: "These awards are a testament to the dedication, skill, and innovation of our teams across Southend-on-Sea City Council.

"From climate action to housing excellence and the achievements of our emerging professionals, we're proud to see their hard work recognised at a county-wide level.

"This also reflects our wider ambition to make Southend a vibrant, sustainable, and prosperous city that residents can be proud to call home, and demonstrates the progress we are making in improving our housing services and standards for the benefit of all residents."
