Share why you love Southend for MONOPOLY launch competition

Southend-on-Sea City Council is inviting residents to get involved in a fun competition to celebrate the upcoming launch of the official MONOPOLY: Southend-on-Sea Edition this March.

The official launch event will take place on Thursday 19 March at the Palace Theatre. One resident will be selected to attend the launch and join Mr. Monopoly as the city marks the arrival of its own version of the world famous board game. Event arrangements are being managed by Winning Moves.

To enter, residents simply need to answer: "Why I Love Southend-on-Sea" in up to 25 words or as a visual entry. Poems, ditties, drawings, photos or snappy one-liners will all be judged equally, with the most inventive entry chosen.

The winner will also receive an exclusive copy of the new board, specially signed by Mr. Monopoly at the launch.

Cllr Daniel Cowan, Leader of Southend-on-Sea City Council, said: "Southend is full of iconic landmarks, hidden gems and a diverse community that makes our city truly special. We attract seven million visitors a year and continue to punch above our weight.

"While we don't yet know the full MONOPOLY line up, we're pleased two local charities will feature. This competition is a great way for residents to share what they love about our city, and there's plenty to love about Southend. I'm looking forward to seeing that pride reflected in the board as it takes shape."

Winning Moves UK are the makers of the official MONOPOLY: Southend-on-Sea Edition board, produced under licence from Hasbro.

The board will be available following the 19 March official launch, in stores across Southend-on-Sea and online, in time for Easter 2026.
