Southend-on-Sea City Council, in collaboration with Bayo Alaba MP, are recruiting for the Pride in Shoeburyness Neighbourhood Board.
This gives residents a direct role in shaping how up to £20 million of long-term investment will be used to uplift the community.
The Board will help identify what matters most to local people - from safer streets and cleaner spaces to community facilities, wellbeing, and local pride. It is a new way of working that puts residents at the centre of decisions about their neighbourhood.
The Board will help set priorities, guide how investment is used, and make sure that residents' voices influence improvements across Shoeburyness. Members will work closely with local people, community groups, businesses, the Council, and MP for Southend East and Rochford to explore ideas and identify opportunities for change.
Applications are open for:
Independent Chair - someone respected locally who can bring people together and lead impartial, constructive discussions.
Board Members - residents, volunteers, business owners, and anyone passionate about improving their neighbourhood.
No prior experience of serving on a board is needed. Training and support will be provided, and applications are welcome from people who may not have taken part in this kind of civic role before.
Cllr Daniel Cowan, Leader of Southend-on-Sea City Council, said: “This is a real opportunity for local people to shape how this Pride in Place funding can benefit the future of Shoeburyness.
"We want residents who care about their neighbourhood and want to see positive, lasting change. If you have ideas, commitment and want to make a difference, we would love you to apply.”
Bayo Alaba MP, said: “This is a proud moment for our community, its putting power back into the hands of the people of Shoeburyness.
"The real work begins now, and if you want to help shape the future of your local area or know someone who is an un-sung hero in our community, apply! This is your neighbourhood, your plan.”
