Southend's cultural scene is set to benefit from new investment.

Local groups, creative projects and community events have been awarded funding through the first round of the Southend Culture Small Grants Scheme.

The support will help bring more activities, performances and neighbourhood events to life across the city - giving residents greater access to arts, heritage and community‑led projects close to home.

The grants programme, which aims to strengthen Southend's cultural offer and support grassroots talent, received strong interest from groups committed to enriching the city's creativity and community spirit.

Following assessment, several applicants have now been selected to receive funding for initiatives that will benefit residents and visitors alike. Successful applicants will be contacted directly in the coming days with formal confirmation and next steps.

Cllr Matt Dent, Cabinet Member for Business, Culture, Music and Tourism, said: "We are delighted to support a wide variety of projects that celebrate Southend's creativity and community spirit. These grants help ensure that our cultural offer continues to grow, diversify, and reach people across the city."

The programme forms part of Southend Culture's commitment to nurturing local talent, strengthening neighbourhood connections, and encouraging greater participation in arts and heritage activities.
