Carers First wins Council contract to keep vital support services running in Southend

Carers First have secured a contract by Southend-on-Sea City Council to continue to provide help and support for carers and young carers in the area.

Two female members from Carers First stand next to a projector screen with Southend-on-Sea and Carers First written on it.

This means that the charity can continue to directly work with carers to find balance in their lives, with a dedicated team and skilled individuals providing personalised information and tailored support in the way that suits carers. This support is available online, by phone, and face to face.

Mark Harvey, Executive Director, Adults and Communities, Southend-on-Sea City Council: "We are delighted to continue our partnership with Carers First, whose commitment to supporting carers in Southend-on-Sea makes a profound difference every day. We want every carer in Southend to know that they matter, their wellbeing matters, and they are never alone in this journey.

"This new contract means they will continue to have a trusted and accessible place to turn to for guidance, understanding, and practical help. We look forward to seeing this vital work continue to grow and flourish in our community."

Every carer's story is different, but Carers First can provide help with carers assessments, taking breaks, getting financial support, handling legal matters, managing work or education, and more.

Megan Williams, Carers First Southend-on-Sea Team Lead, said: "We are incredibly proud and grateful to have secured this contract, which means our dedicated Southend team can continue to stand alongside unpaid carers in our community.

"Many of us don't think of ourselves as carers, we're simply supporting someone we care about. That might be a parent, partner, sibling, friend, or neighbour. Yet two in three of us will take on a caring role at some point in our lives.

"Everything we offer is shaped by carers themselves, from our young carers club and wellbeing walks to coffee mornings, male carer meet-ups and other activities that create space to breathe and connect.

"To every carer in Southend-on-Sea: you are not alone. If you're supporting someone, please reach out and register with us. Come and meet our team, connect with others who understand your journey, and discover the support that's here for you."

Remember, you don't have to wait until crisis point before asking for help; the earlier you ask, the bigger difference it can make.
