Need support for yourself, or concerned about your own or someone else's behaviour?
Cllr Maxine Sadza, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Healthier Communities, said: "Every four years, the World Cup brings people together and is a time many of us look forward to. While it's a positive and exciting tournament, past data shows that incidents of domestic abuse can sadly increase during major sporting events. That's why we're using this moment to raise awareness. If you are affected, please remember that support is available - you are not alone.
"The Council is proud to support the Southend, Essex and Thurrock Domestic Abuse Board (SETDAB) World Cup 2026 awareness campaign, which highlights this increased risk and promotes support services such as Compass, the Essex-wide domestic abuse helpline.
"By working with partners across Essex, we're helping ensure residents know where to turn. Abuse is never acceptable. We hope everyone enjoys the World Cup and stays safe."
