Garden waste collections stopping for residents who haven’t updated their subscription

Southend-on-Sea City Council is urging residents who previously paid for their garden waste collection subscription by Direct Debit to check they still have a valid subscription in place.

An open green wheelie bin that is filled nearly to the top with leaves and small branches.

Subscription payments were previously made directly to our former collection contractor, Veolia. When Veolia ceased providing the collection service, payments were transferred to Southend-on-Sea City Council. However, despite communications advising residents of this change, a small number have not yet redirected their payments to the Council.

Residents who have historically paid by Direct Debit are therefore urged to check their bank statements for the last 12 months.

If there is no evidence of payment to Southend-on-Sea City Council for the garden waste service during this period, residents should arrange payment as soon as possible to avoid disruption to their service.

Residents without a valid garden waste subscription will no longer receive garden waste collections and any bins not collected will have a tag left on them by our collection contractor, SUEZ.

There are three ways to make payment for your garden waste subscription:

  1. Log in to MySouthend, create a subscription account, and complete your payment online.
  2. If you are registered on MySouthend you can also create an account and make payment through the Residents Waste App
  3. Telephone 01702 215006 to make a payment.
