The Worshipful the Mayor, Cllr Tony Cox, is inviting residents, veterans, serving personnel, and visitors to come together for our annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service on 8 November 2026.
Sunday's parade will assemble at Prittlewell Square from 10.15am before proceeding along Clifftown Parade to the Southend Cenotaph at 10.45am, where the Service of Remembrance will begin at 11am, including the national two-minute silence.
Local veterans, serving personnel and members of uniformed organisations are warmly invited to take part in the parade. Anyone wishing to participate is asked to contact the Mayor's Office at mayorsoffice@southend.gov.uk to register their interest and receive further information.
The service will provide an opportunity for the city to honour those who sacrificed their lives in the two World Wars and in conflicts since, while paying tribute to veterans and those who continue to serve today.
Wreaths will then be laid by civic dignitaries, armed forces representatives, veterans, faith leaders, and community organisations. Members of the public wishing to lay a wreath will also be invited to come forward during the service.
In addition to the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service at the Cenotaph, The Mayor will also lead the City in a two minute silence on Wednesday 11 November, at 11am on Southend-on-Sea High Street, adjacent to the Victoria Shopping Centre.
The Worshipful the Mayor, Cllr Tony Cox, said: "Remembrance Sunday is one of the most important occasions in our city's civic calendar. It provides an opportunity for us all to come together, reflect upon the sacrifices made by generations of servicemen and women, and honour those who gave their lives in the service of our country.
“I encourage all residents and visitors to join us at the Cenotaph as we remember the fallen, support our veterans, and pay tribute to those who continue to serve today."
Cllr Daniel Cowan, Leader of the Council, added: “The annual commemorations are a longstanding part of Southend's civic calendar, bringing together people from across the community in a shared act of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude.
“Last year's Poppies on the Pier commemorations highlighted not only the city's strong sense of civic pride and enduring support for the Armed Forces community, but also the universal significance of remembrance, capturing attention around the world and reminding us that the values of sacrifice, service, and peace transcend borders.”
Temporary road closures will be in effect around the Cenotaph area on Sunday 8 November to accommodate the parade and service, with clear signage and parking restrictions in place.
As part of the commemorations, a Royal Artillery gun will be positioned in Southend Cliff Gardens, opposite Wilson Road, with ceremonial gun salutes at 11am and 11.02am.
