Donate a gift this Christmas with the Council's Toy Drive

Southend-on-Sea City Council has launched its annual Toy Drive ahead of the 2026 festive season.

Pile of presents wrapped up and some unwrapped toys and games.

The successful initiative, now in its 13th year, has seen 44,702 donations reach more than 21,200 children and young people.

The council hopes to expand its efforts this year to reach even more children who might not receive a Christmas gift without the community's generosity.

This scheme will run until Tuesday 15 December.

The council are asking for donations of new, unwrapped gifts, which will be sorted and wrapped by volunteers.

Cllr Mandy O'Connor, Cabinet Member for Children and SEND, said: "It's that special time of year again, and the Toy Drive is back to help bring festive joy to children and young people across our city.

"Every year, I'm inspired by the incredible generosity of our community and the kindness shown to those who need it most. Supporting local toy shops while helping to make Christmas magical for others is a wonderful way to give back.

"We especially welcome gifts for older children and teenagers, as these are often the age groups that receive the fewest donations but can benefit just as much from a thoughtful gift at Christmas.

"A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated in previous years. Once again, we're asking for your support to help make this Christmas truly special for vulnerable children and young people in Southend."

Those wanting to donate can give new toys suitable for girls, boys and babies up to the age of 18, vouchers for toys or days out, selection packs, pens, pencils, colouring books, and toiletry sets.

If the toys require batteries, the council asks that these be included.

Gifts can be purchased from Argosy Toys or Toys 'N' Tuck, from where council elves will collect them.

Donations can also be delivered to the Civic Centre, the Forum, or Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre by Tuesday 15 December.

For those preferring to donate online, toys can be purchased from Argosy Toys by selecting "Toy Drive", or from Toys 'N' Tuck by searching "Southend Toy Drive Donation".
