20mph neighbourhoods

Background

The matter of 20 mph neighbourhoods was first considered by cabinet on Thursday 13 January. You can read the full report on our democracy pages (minute 611).

Following a reference back from the place scrutiny committee, it was last considered at the council’s cabinet on Tuesday 22 February. You can read the full report on our democracy pages.

At that meeting of cabinet it was agreed that:

  • the formal proposal be split, and separate reports produced for each area
  • the Leigh and West Leigh to be presented for approval to construct
  • the Thorpe proposal to be presented for approval to consult
  • delegated authority be given to the executive director for neighbourhoods and environment, in consultation with the cabinet member for transport, asset Management and inward investment to agree the advertisement of any necessary traffic regulation orders.

Current position

Consultations on introducing traffic calming measures in Leigh and Thorpe Bay as part of a pilot programme are now live on Your say Southend.
