20mph neighbourhoods

Background

The matter of 20 mph neighbourhoods was first considered by cabinet on Thursday 13th January. You can read the full report on our democracy pages (minute 611).

Following a reference back from the place scrutiny committee, it was last considered at the council’s cabinet on Tuesday 22nd February. You can read the full report on our democracy pages.

At that meeting of cabinet it was agreed that:

  • The formal proposal be split, and separate reports produced for each area
  • The Leigh & West Leigh to be presented for approval to construct
  • The Thorpe proposal to be presented for approval to consult
  • Delegated authority be given to the executive director for neighbourhoods and environment, in consultation with the cabinet member for transport, asset Management and inward investment to agree the advertisement of any necessary traffic regulation orders.

Current position

The Council has not yet finalised and signed off the plan and full details for any formal consultation for the 20mph scheme in Thorpe Ward.  The process for sign off delegated to the executive director for neighbourhoods and environment in consultation with the cabinet member has not yet been completed.
Once completed a consultation is set to take place. However, due to the pre-election period, any formal council consultation on the Thorpe scheme cannot take place until after the local elections on Thursday 5th May.

Further updates will be provided on this webpage as appropriate.
