Business Rates or Non-Domestic rates are collected by Local Councils and are the means by which businesses and others who occupy non-domestic properties make a contribution towards the costs of local services.
The rates collected are pooled by central government and redistributed to local councils according to the number of people in the area. This money, together with revenue from Council Tax payers, revenue support grants provided by central government and other sums is used to pay for services provided by your Council.
