Casual vacancies
A casual vacancy arises when an elected member no longer holds their position due to reasons such as death, resignation, disqualification, or losing eligibility to remain elected.
The local authority (this will be the parish council, in the instance of a parish by-election) must issue a public notice when a casual vacancy occurs. This notice will specify the area where the vacancy has arisen and include any relevant details, such as the number of electors needed to request a by-election, if applicable.
