Social Housing Decarbonisation Scheme Wave 2
Grant Funding
In 2023, we were successful in securing £1.15m through the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Scheme Wave 2, to retrofit 110 council houses, with this being match funded by the council.
The Project
The project saw 110 of our hardest to treat houses retrofitted with:
- external wall insulation
- loft insulation
- double glazed windows
- mechanical ventilation
- some flat roof insulation (for extensions)
This project began delivering in May 2024, with delivery concluding in June 2025.
Outcomes
This was a fabric first project, meaning that we were focused on improving building fabric before looking at changing to a low carbon heating system or installing solar panels. The project is expected to save residents 30% on their energy bills each year and reduce the annual carbon emissions from the 110 houses by 30% per year.
By focusing on improving building fabric, making the property warmer, focusing on reducing draughts and cold spots, instances of damp, mould, and condensation should also reduce in the retrofitted properties.
