Building control regulations
Building control is to make sure that all building work complies with the building regulations and other allied legislation. This is done by checking the plans of the proposed work and by inspecting the work on site.

Usually you must notify us when building work is to be carried out. Not all new buildings must comply with the building regulations. Certain small buildings such as garages, garden sheds, certain extensions such as conservatories and covered ways are exempt.
The approved documents for the fourteen technical parts of the building regulations requirements are available via the planning portal.
Please see the make a building regulations application page if you want to make a submission. Once you have submitted an application, a building control officer will inspect the building work. Once the officer assesses whether the work complies with the regulations, they will issue a completion certificate.
