The Government signed the Climate Change Act 2008 in November 2008. Its aim to create a low-carbon economy and tackle the issue of climate change.
The UK must decrease its overall carbon emissions by:
- 34% by 2020
- and by at least 80% by 2050
Compared to levels in 1990.
It also encourages:
- energy efficiency
- development of renewable energy
- aims to secure a low carbon energy supply for the UK.
At a local level we are taking more steps to tackle this issue. We have shown this by signing the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change in 2008.
