Non-recyclable waste - black bin

Your black bin is collected every two weeks*.

Please use your black bin for items that cannot be recycled. All rubbish must be contained in the black bin with the lid firmly closed.

If you are using the full range of recycling bins and food waste collection service and still have additional rubbish this can also be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) for disposal.

We recommend putting items that cant be recycled in sacks or bags before putting it in the black bin, as this will help keep your bin clean.

If you live in a purpose-built block of flats please see our recycling in flats page.

*If you are on a loose sack collection your black sacks will be collected weekly, along with your other recycling and food waste.

Damaged or missing bins

Householders are responsible for safely securing their bins. If you move home, the bins must be left at the property for the new residents. You can order replacement bins online.

When will my bin be emptied?

The best way to find out which day your recycling and waste is collected is through the app. Please note that if your home is currently under review, information may not be accurate.

If you cannot access the app, you can contact our customer services team on 01702 215006.

We are also looking to build a new MySouthend form that will allow you to lookup this information quickly through our website. This will be available in the coming months.

Put out your bin (or sack) at the edge of your property by 7am on your scheduled collection day. It should not be placed on the public footpath, grass verge or road, doing this may result in enforcement action. If alternative collection arrangements have been agreed please return your bin to your property after collection.

If you forget to put your bin on the edge of your property, the collection crew will not be able to return. You will need to wait until your next collection.

Residents who have difficulty moving their bin (or sacks) to the edge of their property, can request an assisted collection.
