Report a parking or road problem

Requesting a Parking Restriction (e.g. Yellow Lines)

If you are worried that parking is creating safety issues such as

  • obstructed visibility
  • restricted access for emergency vehicles
  • increased congestion

You may wish to ask for new or more parking restrictions, such as single or double yellow lines.

Requests must be sent to our Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) team by email at TRO@southend.gov.uk

Once received, the team will look at the request using established safety criteria.

This assessment considers:

  • road layout and visibility
  • history of collisions or incidents
  • proximity to schools and or junctions
  • congestion and access for larger or emergency vehicles
  • frequency and nature of parking obstructions

Each location is given a safety score. If it meets the required score, we will add it to our future works programme for further investigation.

If it does not meet the required score, we will provide feedback, and no further action will be taken at that time.

Where a scheme is taken forward, an engineer may carry out a site visit to develop a draft design. This design might be reviewed with the ward Councillors and relevant Portfolio Holder. This ensures the design is appropriate for the location.

The proposal will then move to formal public consultation. This allows residents and other stakeholders to comment before a final decision is made. We must complete this stage to introduce the parking restriction with a Traffic Regulation Order. This is a legal process.
