How we are performing

The Corporate Plan 2024 sets out our focus for the next four years. It shows what we aim to achieve for our:

  • residents
  • businesses
  • visitors

And how we will transform as an organisation.

We have four priorities to address the needs and challenges of our city and the council. A city that is:

  • proud and prosperous
  • safe, clean and green
  • caring with a good quality of life for all
  • led by a transformative, responsive council

Tracking progress toward these priorities is important. We check progress in several ways:

Corporate Performance Report

The report provides an update on our key performance indicators at regular stages during the year.

Annual Report

Our annual report sets out our key achievements for the past year. It shows what we have delivered.

Recent inspection and peer challenge outcomes

Government bodies regularly carry out inspections. They provide feedback on how services are performing against a set of standards.

Inspectors visited our youth justice services in June 2024 and rated them as 'Requires Improvementt'. We now have a plan in place to make the changes recommended in the report.

In October 2024, Ofsted inspected our children's services and rated them as 'Good'. This was a big improvement from the last full inspection in July 2019, when the services needed improvement. Since then, we have made many important changes.

In October 2022, we took part in a Local Government Association (LGA) corporate peer challenge. Councillors and senior staff from other councils made several suggestions for improvement. The LGA returned in December 2023 to check on our progress.
