Appealing a Community Protection Notice (CPN)

A CPN can be appealed by following the steps found on the notice. The appeal will be heard in a Magistrates' Court.

You can appeal if:

  • the problem in the CPN did not take place
  • it didn't have a harmful effect the community
  • it didn't keep happening
  • it wasn't unreasonable
  • the problem couldn't be controlled or stopped
  • the CPN requirements are unreasonable
  • there's a mistake or problem with the CPN
  • the CPN was issued to the wrong person

You must make an appeal within 21 days of receiving a CPN.

If the CPN requires something must be done, it can wait until the outcome of the appeal. If the CPN requires something to stop, it must be stopped right away.
