Temporary fridge and freezer disposal disruption

We are asking residents to delay disposing of unwanted fridges and freezers where possible due to a national shortage of specialist treatment facilities. Several processing sites across the UK have been taken out of operation, creating significant pressure on councils and waste contractors nationwide.

We have temporarily suspended bulky waste bookings for fridges and freezers.

Leigh Marshes Household Waste Recycling Centre is currently unable to accept fridges and freezers, but Stock Road HWRC remains open for these items. Where practical, residents are encouraged to continue using working appliances, explore repair, reuse or donation options, or ask retailers to collect old appliances when purchasing replacements. Please consider delaying disposal until national treatment capacity improves and only present appliances for disposal where it is necessary.
