Better Queensway Project

Better Queensway is a long term project that will completely change the Queensway area in the coming years. This will be done through the creation of an improved and growing community made up of high quality housing, community facilities, early learning facilities, shops, and improvements to the public spaces, environment and road network.

As part of the project there is also the opportunity to alter the roads in the area to improve access from the housing to the rest of the town centre. The project will also seek to encourage walking, cycling and the use of public transport.

Following several meetings with residents, plans to regenerate the estate have now moved forward and were discussed by councillors in September (Cabinet, 20th September, item no. 5).

Cabinet approved a number of recommendations, including:
  • The preparation and submission of an outline planning application
  • To progress selection of a delivery partner to take the project forwards
  • A preferred financial option to allow the project to go ahead
  • To serve initial demolition notices on all secure tenants of flats and houses following the decision to demolish the tower blocks and other flats within the project area

In December, two 'resident design sessions' took place where people were asked for their views on a number of subject areas including design, public spaces, and car parking. If you were unable to attend the sessions, you can make comments on our online StickyWorld site.
