Sutton Road Cemetery and Southend Crematorium

We will shortly begin Health and Safety maintenance and improvement works to the lawn graves in this cemetery.

We are carrying out the work to maintain these areas safely and for the safety of the public.

In accordance with the cemetery regulations, grave owners can have an approved council headstone at the head of the grave and can use the area on its plinth or concrete base for fresh flowers and potted plants.

As these are lawn graves, no other surrounds, fences, trees, or shrubs are permitted.

No other keepsakes or planting is permitted along the length of the grave which is maintained by the council as a lawn.

We are requesting all surrounds, fences, trees, or shrubs are removed by 31st January 2021. Works will start the week beginning 8 March 2021.

Please contact us at Bereavement Services to discuss any concerns.

Music
Music often holds special memories and both our chapels are equipped with a Obitus music system, in addition there is an electronic organ in the south chapel and a pipe organ in the west chapel to accommodate your needs. The Wesley music system gives access to a vast library of hymns and recorded music which can be viewed online at http://www.obitus.com/index.php?

The system offers the opportunity, at an additional cost, to record services onto CD or DVD and for those family members who are unable to attend the service in person the system can be used to broadcast the service live via webcast.
Choosing a Final Resting Place
When you choose to have a
funeral service at Southend crematorium, we will ask you what you would like to
happen to the cremated remains. Any instruction must be authorised by the
person who signs the cremation paperwork.

Once you have decided on a
final resting place for your loved one’s remains, we will do everything that we
can to assist you. You may wish to take the remains from the
crematorium. In which case, we will ensure the remains are in the
appropriate container and that everything will be available on the day you wish
to collect them. Alternatively, a cremated remains plot can be purchased
for the interment of remains in our cemetery. Approved stone memorials
can be placed on the plot after interment.

For a burial, the coffin will
be taken to the graveside after the service for interment. Flowers and
wreaths will be carefully placed on top.
Memorials

Choosing to dedicate a memorial in memory of a loved one is entirely a matter of personal choice. We have a wide range of memorials to suit all tastes and budgets.

Garden of Remembrance

Our garden of remembrance and cemetery features many roses, trees and shrubs that have been dedicated in memory of a loved one. Standard roses and rose bushes are found in communal beds in our garden of remembrance which covers eight acres and includes formal gardens, a sunken rose garden and rock gardens.

The newly designed Pergola Walk at Southend Crematorium is now open.

he design has incorporated the existing slate memorial tablets whilst introducing a new range of memorials which will offer both traditional and modern designs.. The area has been designed to create a tranquil environment for those that gain comfort from having a memorial.

Woodland Memorial Garden

The woodland memorial garden is designed to create a peaceful memorial area. It is densely planted with native trees and under planted with hollies, dog roses, ferns and other plants. A small stream emanates from a rock pool and flows through the gardens. A wooden pavilion stands within the trees providing shelter and a covered memorial area.
