  • the median age band across the council is 40 to 44
  • the highest proportion of staff come under the 50 to 54 and 55 to 60 age bands (14.7% each)
  • the 16 to 19 age band contains the smallest proportion of employees (0.2%)

These findings show that:

  • age ranges of employees have changed slightly over the past four years
  • the median age band of council employees represents the local community (41 average age)
  • the highest proportion age bands have been consistent over the past four years
  • the number of under 25's and over 65's within the council is not representative of the local community. This is because they are possibly either in education or retired

Next steps:

  • continue to attract young talent through apprenticeship and graduate programs
  • acknowledge differences in age demographics between our workforce and the wider community
