Look out for your letter
Households across the borough will soon receive a form asking them to check whether the information we hold on the register of electors is correct. This also helps to identify any residents who are not registered to vote so that they can be encouraged to do so.
Please respond to your form promptly, even if there are no changes to be made. Please note that even If you are not eligible to vote you must still respond to this form.
You will need to follow the instructions on your form if you wish to respond online, by automated telephone service or by text.
Alternatively, you can respond by calling us on 01702 215010 or by email email@example.com.
If you don’t have your form please telephone electoral services on 01702 215010 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note that anyone that you add to the names already printed on your form will not be registered to vote and will need to register by visiting www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. This is because the household enquiry form is not an electoral registration form.
If they do not register we will write to those individuals separately to remind them to do so.
Please note that you are required by law to respond.
As a local authority we have a statutory duty to maintain a register of electors. The Electoral Registration Officer has a legal duty to maintain this register. This duty is fully explained in the Representation of the People Act 1983 and associated regulations. The legal basis for processing this information falls under the performance of a public task in the public interest or exercising official authority. Therefore any task related to performing this function including sending a Household Canvass and sending the out the letters is carried out on this basis and is compliant with the new Data Protection Legislation (including GDPR).
