Household Canvass

Look out for your letter

Households across the borough should now have received a household enquiry form which they are required to respond to. Please note that a response to this form is needed, even if there are no changes to the details printed inside the form, or, no one living at the address is eligible to register to vote.

The information collected on the household enquiry form is used to maintain the register of electors. However, it is not a registration form which means that it cannot be used to add new electors directly onto the register. Therefore, if you are living at a property and your details are not pre-printed on the electoral enquiry form sent to your address, you will need to take further action. Please see below.

You can respond to the household enquiry form online, by automated telephone service or by text.  To do this, please follow the instructions on your form.

Alternatively, you can respond by calling us directly on 01702 215010 or by email.

If you have lost your household enquiry form, please telephone electoral services on 01702 215010 or email.

Any new residents that are added to the  pre-printed information on the household enquiry form will not automatically be registered to vote. These residents must  make an individual application to register to vote. This can be done by visiting the Gov.uk website. If they do not register we will write to them separately to remind them to do so.

If you have your security codes please respond to your household enquiry form online by visiting the Household Response website.

Please note that you are required by law to respond.

As a local authority we have a statutory duty to maintain a register of electors. The Electoral Registration Officer has a legal duty to maintain this register. This duty is fully explained in the Representation of the People Act 1983 and associated regulations. The legal basis for processing this information falls under the performance of a public task in the public interest or exercising official authority. Therefore any task related to performing this function including sending a Household Canvass and sending the out the letters is carried out on this basis and is compliant with the new Data Protection Legislation (including GDPR).
